Creative expression has always been my form of meditation.  I have been searching for a way to bring my inner experience together with the resulting image.  The series of Zen Transformation pastels is the closest that I have come.  My goal is to immerse myself and the viewer in the image and to utilize art as a spiritual experience.  Nature is the foundation for all of my images.

My art is always in transition.  It grows and changes. It evolves from one form to another.  I have experimented with many mediums but I always seem to go back to my "roots".  I have a love of drawing.  I enjoy the immediacy of drawing and the feel of the charcoal and pastel on the paper.  There are several layers in my drawings and pastels.  I often start with a charcoal drawing and blend pastels over the top.  This creates a velvety richness of textures and colors.  Touching and manipulating the drawing is important to me.  I strive to create an emotional connection to the image through the intuitive and expressionistic use of colors.

The sources of my images come from small segments of personal photographs.  Small drawings and paintings are rearranged into a larger compostion.  The plant forms transition to photograph and then to drawing.  There are many variations in how nature is viewed, experienced and then represented.  Small squares are utilized to show the act of looking and experienceing nature and its many transitions.

My goal is to create artwork that reflects the spirit and mystery of the natural world.
